Homestead-Miami Speedway turns its drag strip into a controlled racing night this Friday, October 9, from 6 in the evening to midnight. Fast Lane Friday is a legal alternative to street racing: drivers bring their own street-legal cars, run them head-to-head, and race for their fastest time on a real NASCAR track while spectators watch from the grandstands.

For drivers and for spectators

To take part as a driver you must be at least 18, hold a valid driver's license, and carry proof of registration and insurance for the car. Driver admission runs thirty dollars and includes access to the staging lanes and the start line. Spectators pay general admission and settle into the stands, where the evening moves in rounds and the racing is the show. The rules keep it orderly: street-legal vehicles only, seat belts on at all times, no alcohol for drivers, and pit-lane speed limits enforced through the night.

Why it matters for the area

Events like this give young drivers a place to run that is measured, supervised and safe, instead of leaving them to find a road after dark. The speedway sits just north of the city in Homestead, minutes from most of South Dade. For residents who want to watch, the stands stay open all evening; for anyone who has ever wanted to run their car against the clock, Friday is the night to bring it.
