The Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center in Cutler Bay turns its plaza into a family Halloween celebration on Friday, October 23, from 6 to 9 at night. The night is free, and its centerpiece is the Spooky Symphony: two back-to-back costumed concerts by the Alhambra Orchestra and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony, supported by The Children's Trust, on the lawn at 10950 Southwest 211th Street.

What the evening holds

The grounds spread across the Backyard Lawn, the Plaza and the Lab Theater. A haunted house welcomes braver visitors, candy giveaways and festive treats line the walk, and photo spots set up around the plaza for costumes. Dance teams from South Dade schools take the stage between sets, Halloween coloring stations keep little hands busy, and the Lab Theater screens Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest for families who want a seated break.

Reservations and the right way to arrive

Admission is free but ticketed, and reservations open on October 9, so families can plan the evening without standing in line. Costumes are encouraged, and the 6 o'clock start means the youngest visitors can enjoy the music, the candy and the lights before bedtime. For South Dade families, it is the kind of free night out that makes Halloween week feel like a season instead of a single evening.
