The South Florida Light The Night walk steps off at Miramar Regional Park on Saturday, November 7, from 5 to 7 in the evening. Organized with Blood Cancer United, formerly The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the evening walk carries glowing lanterns to celebrate, honor and remember people touched by blood cancer. Registration is free, and the roughly one-mile route through the park welcomes dogs, strollers and wheelchairs.

A mile that means something

Walkers pick up their lanterns at the Lantern Tent before the route begins, each color carrying its own meaning: white for survivors, gold in memory of a loved one, red to support the cause. The walk is rain or shine, food is available on site, and while registration is free, participants are encouraged to fundraise for blood cancer research and patient support.

An evening for the whole family

Miramar Regional Park at 16801 Miramar Parkway is easy to reach from across Broward and southern Miami-Dade. The 5 to 7 window keeps the walk family sized, with the park's wide paths and open lawns giving children room to carry their own lanterns. It is a gentle way to teach kids that an evening out can also be an evening that gives back.
