The Festival del Plátano returns to Juan Pablo Duarte Park in Miami's Allapattah neighborhood on Sunday, November 15, from noon to 5 in the afternoon. Now in its second year, the free festival celebrates the plantain across Dominican and Caribbean cooking with a food court, live music and family activities. The centerpiece is the Plátano Showdown, where local chefs compete with plantain dishes for judges and prizes.

One fruit, many tables

Food trucks and vendors serve the plantain sweet and savory: fried, mashed, stuffed and baked, in the forms that anchor Dominican and Caribbean tables. Between bites, live bands and dance showcases keep the park moving, and art on site explores how the plantain shaped the region's culinary traditions. The park's paved paths make the festival easy to walk with strollers.

A taste of Little Santo Domingo

Juan Pablo Duarte Park sits at 1776 SW 28th Street in Allapattah, the heart of Miami's Little Santo Domingo, and the festival is a friendly introduction to the neighborhood. For families curious about South Florida's Caribbean food scene, it is an afternoon that costs nothing to enter and rewards slow strolling. Come hungry, wander the vendors, and let the music set the pace.
