Miami Springs throws its annual municipal Halloween festival on Saturday, October 24, from 5 to 9 at night at the Community Center at 1401 Westward Drive. Howl-O-Springs fills the grounds with costume contests, local vendor booths, music, food and autumn activities, in a setting that is safe, fenced and easy to manage with children.

What comes with the wristband

The festival runs on a simple structure: children wear an activity wristband that covers the games, attractions and trick-or-treat stops, while adults move freely between the vendor booths and food areas. Recent years priced child wristbands at eight dollars for residents in presale and ten on the day of the event, with adult admission around five dollars for residents, so a family evening stays affordable. Music plays through the grounds as the crowd moves between the costume contest stage and the lit booths.

A contained night for South Florida families

The festival is made for the age group that makes Halloween work best: elementary age and younger. It starts before dark, ends by nine, and sits within ten minutes of Miami International Airport, so families from across Miami-Dade can come without a long drive. For anyone scouting neighborhoods in the area, it is also a lively way to see Miami Springs at its most community-minded.
