Senior Transition · The Sale Transición de mayores · La venta
Sell the home when the new door is ready. Venda la casa cuando la nueva puerta esté lista.
The single scariest part of moving into senior living is usually the gap: selling the family home before the community opens its door, or paying two rents in between. Nanci coordinates both calendars so the sale funds the move and the senior lands without a double carry. Lo más aterrador de mudarse a una comunidad es el espacio intermedio: vender la casa antes de que abra la puerta y pagar de más. Nanci coordina ambos calendarios para que la venta financie la mudanza.
The Sequence
Two calendars, one clean move.
- 01
Understand the facility timeline
Senior living communities work on their own calendars: waitlists, deposits, and move-in dates. Nanci learns the facility's timeline before setting the home's listing date.
- 02
Fund the move from the sale
Many families plan to fund the buy-in or the deposit from the proceeds. Nanci models the timing so the sale closes in step with the community's payment schedule.
- 03
Prepare the home without the stress
Staging around abandoned belongings, a light touch, and a market read that fits an honest timeline. The family does not need a renovation project on top of a move.
- 04
Coordinate the handoff
Sell date, move date, cleanout, and keys line up on one calendar, so the senior moves once, into the new place, straight from the home they know.
When the home sells first
Some families prefer selling first, moving the proceeds to a safe place and keeping the senior flexible for the facility waitlist. The Sell & Stay path can ease that, leasing the home back from the buyer for an agreed window.
