The Redland Fish Fry and Seafood Festival returns to Fruit and Spice Park in Homestead on Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8, from 10 in the morning to 5 in the evening. Vendors spread across the 37-acre park serving fried and grilled local seafood, shrimp, conch fritters, hushpuppies and crab cakes, with a Southern rock lineup on stage and a beer tent for the grown-ups. Admission is 8 dollars, and children 11 and under enter free.

The taste of South Dade's coast

The festival celebrates the fishing tradition that anchors Homestead and the Redland, where the coast and the farm country meet. Most visitors bring lawn chairs and settle in for the afternoon, so the pace is unhurried and family sized. Between the plates of seafood and the live music, the weekend reads as a relaxed South Florida way to spend two November days.

A weekend at the park at the heart of the Redland

Fruit and Spice Park sits at 24801 SW 187th Avenue, the working garden at the center of Redland farm country. For buyers comparing Homestead and the Redland, a day at the festival is a practical look at the open space and community rhythm the area is known for. Come hungry, bring a chair, and let the afternoon introduce the neighborhood.
