House of Horror marks its 25th year with a haunted carnival at Tropical Park in Miami, running from Thursday, September 24, through Sunday, November 1. The park sits at 7900 Southwest 40th Street, and the grounds open Sunday through Thursday from 6 to 11 in the evening and Friday and Saturday from 6 in the evening to midnight, closed September 28 and October 5. Admission covers the whole night: five haunted houses, unlimited carnival rides, scare zones, access to the family zone and free parking.

A family zone inside the fright

New for this year, the House of Little Horrors is the not-so-scary side of the carnival, a family zone under a large roof with kid rides, a low-scare maze, seasonal photo spots and family-friendly vendors, included with admission and open to all ages. The main haunted houses are recommended for guests 16 and older, and children's tickets do not include them, which keeps the line between the two worlds clear. Families can spend the evening together in the little horrors zone while the older group takes the big haunts.

A Miami tradition with a new home

The carnival moved this year to Tropical Park, which puts it minutes from the Palmetto Expressway and easy to reach from Homestead, Cutler Bay and Kendall. For families that enjoy the season's spirit without the full scare, the little horrors zone makes the event work for a mixed group, and the all-inclusive admission keeps the night predictable. It is a big October calendar item for South Dade, and the run through November 1 gives families several weekends to find their night.
